Engineering Highlights

The 2.0-liter, dual-overhead camshaft K20Z3 engine in the Civic Si produces 197 horsepower at 7800 rpm and 139 lb.-ft. of torque at 6100 rpm. Thanks to special Honda-developed performance technologies, such as the ultra-precise Drive-by-Wire throttle system, 3-rocker i-VTEC variable valve timing, a cold-air intake and equal-length exhaust header, the K20Z3 engine boasts an impressive flat torque curve from idle, all the way to its race car-like 8000-rpm redline. Plus, the K20Z3's intake and exhaust system is quiet and unobtrusive when cruising at highway speed, but produces an aggressive, sporty sound at full throttle.

Fast-responding electronics take the place of a traditional throttle cable and produce greater response, fuel economy and driveablility with minimum adjustment and maintenance.

Representation of Slip DifferentialHelical Limited-Slip Differential

Usually found only on high-performance and racing cars, the limited-slip unit helps give the driver more steering control and enhanced steering response when accelerating and cornering.

Photo of WindshieldOpposable Windshield Wipers

The futuristic design of the 2007 Civic meant that the resulting windshield would be a very large piece of glass. In order to wipe that expanse free of moisture, a brand-new wiper system was developed. The solution was the opposable mechanism with a serviceable blade runner. The 700-mm blade is the longest offered on any Honda vehicle. This type of wiper system is typically only used on luxury vehicles. The Civic is the first compact car to offer it as standard equipment.

The performance-oriented close-ratio 6-speed transmission is lightweight and compact, with a quick, precise shift action and solid, direct feel. Special features of this transmission include close gear ratios for first through fifth gears and a low 4.765:1 final drive, for faster acceleration, a stiffer cast-aluminum transmission case for reduced noise, carbon-faced single cone synchronizers on fifth and sixth gears for enhanced shift feel and a low-ratio sixth gear for quieter, more fuel-efficient highway cruising.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps you maintain steering control during hard stops. Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) balances braking forces at each wheel according to how the car is loaded dynamically.

MacPherson Strut Front/Multi-Link Rear Suspension

The geometry of the Civics MacPherson strut, and multi-link rear suspension improves responsiveness and feedback.
